He began his career as an actor, notably appearing in Jean-Luc Godard's "Vivre Sa Vie" (1962) alongside Anna Karina. Labarthe's directorial debut came with the television documentary series "Cinéastes de notre temps," which profiled specific individuals in the film industry. He also made a brief appearance as a journalist in Godard's seminal film "Breathless" (1960). Labarthe passed away on March 5, 2018.
