Born on May 26, 1926 in Rome, Italy, Nicolai worked as a music director, conductor, and original music composer across several films. Among his credited roles, Nicolai served as the music director for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in 1966. In 1968, Nicolai conducted the score for The Great Silence. He also conducted the music for A Lizard in a Woman's Skin in 1971 and composed the original music for She Killed in Ecstasy the same year. Nicolai was also known by the pseudonyms Leo Flag and Paul Clemente in professional contexts.
