Carlos Diegues was born on May 19, 1940 in Maceió, Alagoas, Brazil. One of the founders of Cinema Novo, Diegues worked across multiple roles in film, including producing, screenwriting, and associate producing. Their contributions to Brazilian cinema are reflected in films such as Capitu (1968), where they served as producer, and Luzia Homem (1988), for which they wrote the screenplay. They also contributed to the screenplay of God Is Brazilian (2003).
In later years, Diegues expanded their involvement in international projects, serving as associate producer on films like Aquarius (2016), Bacurau (2019), and O Amor Dá Trabalho (2019).
