Chano Urueta was born on February 24, 1904 in Chihuahua, Mexico. Urueta worked in the film industry as a director, actor, and writer, gaining recognition in the early 1930s for adaptations of major works of world literature. Urueta directed Una mujer en venta in 1934, demonstrating skill in narrative filmmaking during a formative period of Mexican cinema.
Urueta also appeared as an actor in The Wild Bunch in 1969, taking on the role of Don Jose. The film marked one of Urueta’s later appearances in an international production, reflecting a career that spanned multiple decades and roles behind and in front of the camera. Urueta’s contributions to cinema included both creative and performative work, with a focus on adapting literary material for the screen.
