Biography
Ernst Kunstmann worked in film as part of the crew, contributing to special effects. Kunstmann is credited with special effects on the 1927 film Metropolis, a silent science-fiction epic noted for its technical innovations in visual effects. The film’s elaborate sets, miniatures, and early use of multi-exposure techniques required skilled craftsmanship to achieve its futuristic imagery, and Kunstmann’s role was part of that technical team.
Kunstmann later provided special effects for the 1935 documentary Triumph of the Will, a propaganda film directed by Leni Riefenstahl.
