Gernot Roll, born on April 9, 1939, in Dresden, Germany, was a renowned cinematographer known for his work in both German and international cinema. He began his career as a Director of Photography, a role he excelled in throughout his life. Roll's notable works include "Carnapping - Ordered, Stolen and Sold" (1980), where he showcased his skill in capturing the essence of documentary filmmaking. He further demonstrated his versatility in narrative cinema with "Maybe... Maybe Not" (1994) and "Beyond Silence" (1996), both of which he served as the Director of Photography. Apart from his extensive work behind the camera, Roll also ventured into directing from the mid-1990s onwards, further cementing his legacy in the film industry. He passed away on November 12, 2020.
