He began his career in cinema as an assistant director, notably working with renowned filmmaker Kim Ki-duk. Jang's directorial debut came with the critically acclaimed film "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring" in 2003, where he served as the assistant director. His first venture into directing was with the 2022 film "Serve the People".
