Sayles wrote the screenplay for The Spiderwick Chronicles, a film released in 2008. In 2012, Sayles appeared as himself in the documentary Casting By. As an executive producer, Sayles worked on The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot, released in 2019. Sayles has engaged with the industry in various capacities, including roles behind and in front of the camera.
