Spears' involvement in the film industry spans several decades. One of his earliest credits is as a Story Consultant for the 1980 animated film "Back to the Planet of the Apes". He then served as an Executive Producer for the children's television series "Rose Petal Place" in 1984. Spears' work is also seen in the 2001 direct-to-video animated film "Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase", where he is credited with thanks.
