He is renowned for his work as a film director, with his most notable contribution being "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari," a seminal work of German Expressionism released in 1920. This film, known for its twisted, surreal sets and eerie atmosphere, is considered a classic of the silent era. Wiene's directorial prowess extended beyond Expressionism, as evidenced by his later work, "The Other," released in 1930. Following the Nazi rise to power in Germany, Wiene left his homeland and continued his career in exile.
