Born on April 25, 1970 in Tokyo, Japan, Kawakami provided voice performances for animated features, primarily through Production Baobab. Among her credited roles, Kawakami voiced Utena Tenjou in Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie (1999), a film adaptation of the popular anime series. The following year, she appeared in Devilman - Volume 3: Devilman Apocalypse (2000) as Yumi, and in 2003 she voiced Amanda in the One Piece Special: Open Upon the Great Sea! A Father's Huge, HUGE Dream!
