Roy Chiao, born March 16, 1927 in Shanghai, China, was a versatile actor known for his roles in international cinema. He began his career in the 1950s, appearing in various Hong Kong films. Chiao gained global recognition for his uncredited role as the Shaolin Abbott in the 1973 martial arts classic "Enter the Dragon," starring Bruce Lee.
Chiao's most memorable Western role came in the 1984 adventure film "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," where he played the villainous Lao Che. He also starred as Abbot Hui-yuan in the 1970 wuxia film "A Touch of Zen" and portrayed Mr. Ko in the 1985 action film "The Protector." Chiao continued to work in cinema until his death on April 15, 1999.
